Description
Bixby Memorial Library central dome in Vergennes, Vermont USA. Built in 1912. Celebrating its centennial during this year.
The library opened 7 months after the sinking of the RMS Titanic. During World War I, the basement was used by the American Red Cross to collect needed blood for the Great War effort. The Bixby's Beaux-Arts architectural style, popular in the U.S. at the time, expresses the academic neoclassical architectural style taught at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
